Village tour to Nimthang, East Sikkim
BY: PRAVESH CHHETRI
It was several months infact a year I hadn’t felt the charm of village area, the smell of greenery plants and hilly mountains. It was early morning of 04th Sept 2017 I woke up around 7:00 am as it is my regular time to wale up. Bhai Sanjay Subba and I had this plan once I visited Nandok village to watch semifinal football match during independence day 2017.
As I was completely unaware of the route as previous I was with one of my friend, but bhai helped me to reach there. I reached there at 9:00 as it is half an hour drive from capital town Gangtok. We had a breakfast VEG-FALAY and TEA and headed towards Nimthang. Our plan was to relax and enjoy as the journey was to visit the areas with most magnificent hills and living huts.
I recalled my childhood days when we use walk for more than 2 hour to reach my mother place TAKLING [Darjeeling district] from TESSTA [ West Bengal]. I was really feeling happy and took the opportunity as a challenge. Sanjay described me about the beauty of Namping areas, about local homestays and life of people over there.
We were offered tea by villagers, they share there daily life routine of how things work in village. They were happy that there were living in the fresh environment where many people dream of living. We thought that is exactly 100% correct, if we have to see cities and town than environment is so much polluted that we cant breath fresh air and even don’t have proper park to spend the day.
We moved forward upside hills holding my camera at neck and umbrella at hand. On walking I felt pleasant smell of green grass and fresh green rice at field. The view was magnificent and sky was clear.
We visited Primary Namping School estd. on 2006 classes up to 05. We interact with the teachers about the schools. Thought the school was miserable but teachers were enthusiactic and passionate in teaching there students. There were only 4 teachers. They were happy as we interact with them and clicked pictures of schools and students.
We went to once of the hut and talked with local people regarding the local stay over there. Many tourist are visiting the areas as we came to know from many sources.
A full day trip to Namping is awesome. One need to explore the beauty of nature apart from the regular job of life. I believe you never want to leave those place where the environment is fresh, you got organic vegetable in-front of hut. Local gas cylinder use to cook the food, that was really nostalgic. Burn fire at night with organic wine and chicken with guitar.
After 10 minutes walk we visited BURPEEPAL homestay which was magnificent in design and great view. I heard that who ever visitor came here they spend there whole day just trolling around the building and enjoying the view. We offered tea there and talked with the manager of the homestay. it is the best homestay in East Sikkim to spend your day.
We carried very finest memories from Namping Village. Village tourism has the potential in this region. I suggest visitors coming from Metro cities to spend day on trekking and enjoying Namping village.
